The Lightning 10K has been one of the fastest 10K races in the state of Georgia for 17 years. Designed for runners who enjoy a flat course through the lovely Sandy Springs community and neighborhoods, this is one of the most popular Peachtree Road Race Qualifiers and has grown to include a 5K Race. In 2007, we introduced DAG Electronic Timing, a new timing service that eliminates the need for runners to fill out finish cards or tear off the bottom of their race numbers in the chute. The service also electronically records the runners’ times immediately after crossing the finish line. DAG Electronic Timing and the Technical T-shirts will be back for 2008.

Doug Kessler, who passed away in February 2005, was always looking for ways to make “his” race the best around. It started out as “the Fun Run,” and ultimately became the Lightning 10K because Kessler wanted runners and walkers to think of the phrase “run like lightning” while they were racing. To this day, it is still recognized as one of the fastest around! According to Kessler’s wife, Margie, more than 900 people ran in last year’s race. “I look forward to continuing to help grow the event that Doug held so close to his heart,” Margie says. “It will be a great event for our city and will serve as a great reminder of Doug.”

T-Shirts
All finishers will receive black moisture wicking, technical running shirts. With the help of ASICS, we are able to provide this breathable fabric, similar to CoolMax, to all Doug Kessler Lightning 10K finishers.

REGISTRATION COST
The 10K and 5K entry fee is $20 if received by Thursday, September 24th and $25 after September 24th and on Race day.

REGISTER IN PERSON
Register in person beginning August 4th and receive a race number immediately at Fleet Feet Sports, 224 Johnson Ferry Rd. (404.255.3338).

REGISTER ON LINE
You may register at www.active.com until 6 p.m. Thursday, September 24th (and pickup your race number on race day).

RACE DAY REGISTRATION
Registration is held at the Hitson Center, located next to the Water Tower, off of Mount Vernon Highway and Sandy Springs Circle. Parking is available at Target. Entry fee is $25.

REGISTRATION PICK UP PARTY
Thursday, September 24 at Williams-Payne House Garden Room at Heritage Green.

7:30 AM – 5K Race
8:00 AM – 10K Race
8:15 AM – 5K Award Ceremony
9:15 AM – 10K Award Ceremony

DIRECTIONS
From I-285, exit at Roswell Road and go north (outside the Perimeter) to Mount Vernon Highway. Turn left onto Mount Vernon Highway, and the Hitson Center will be on your left.

Parking
The TARGET parking lot will be available for free parking.
